Sahyadri has spread one of its wings to the west in the Igatpuri region on which lie the forts like Kavnai, Balwantgad and Tringalwadi. The forts in this range have become easily accessible due to the construction of roads upto the hill-tops, the villages developed in this region and the frequent visits of people to this region.
History:
Although the exact period of construction of this fort is not known, however, by virtue of ‘Jain caves’ near the foothills, one can roughly estimate the fort to be in existence since 10th century. Also there is no evidence regarding the period during which it was under control of Marathas, however, during the year 1688; Mughals took control over the fort by perfidy.

The Sahyadri range in Igatpuri region is mainly divided into eastern range and western range. The eastern range is known as Kalsubai range comprising of forts like Kalsubai, Kulang, Alang, Avandha-Patta while the eastern region includes Tringalwadi, Kavnai, Harihar, Brahmagiri and Anjaneri forts. This region can be rambled over from Igatpuri or Ghoti village.
About:
The main entrance door of the fort still stands in a good condition. On entering the main doorway we can see a cave on the right hand side. We have to go via this route only to reach the fort top. On reaching the fort top we can see a small pond towards southern side of the fort. There are many dilapidated structures of mansion by the side of this pond. There is a bastion at the western end of the fort. Also a cistern is located near this bastion. Half-an hour is sufficient to wander over the fort top. Kalsubai range, Trimbak range, Tringalwadi are some of the sightseeing points around the fort from over the fort-top.

Trek to Kawnai Fort
Trek to Trigalwadi Fort
Will Leave Dadar TT by 6.00 AM
Breakfast and Tea in route
With an intro round will do First Kawnai Fort.
To complete it will take 2.30 hrs to return to the base
Further will move to tringalwadi Fort
Will have lunch near trigalwadi cave
From here 2.30 hrs will take to explore and return
Tentatively by 8.00pm will reach to Dadar.
Things to Carry:
- A proper two sided haversack to put all the things, So that one has hands free while trekking.
- One more small bag required while trekking (to carry water bottles, snacks and belongings)
- ID Proof
- Approx 3_4 Ltr Water & Lunch For the day
- Torch With Extra Batteries
- Some Snacks
- Should Wear Good Trekking Shoes, Canvas Shoes is advisable while climbing.
- Full Sleeve Shirt/T-Shirt & Full Pant.
- Carry Some Extra Cloths
- If you have any medical issue please carry your own medicine as we carry only First aid.
Non-compulsory items but helpful:
Cap, Sunglasses, Woolen Jacket, Camera , Avoid wearing Gold and other jewelry, mosquito’s repellent, Electoral / Energy powder, 2 Lemon, & 2 plastic bags for weight distribution.
